Many years ago a friend saw the Halloween costumes Elsa made for
her sons and said, "If you like making costumes, you should get involved with the SCA." She took the bait and the rest is history!!!
Elsa joined the SCA in late 1991. The first thing she attended was an armor workshop in Waynesboro, PA. Her first activity was a Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet demo in 1992. Raven got her involved mainly due to her sewing skills. Elsa's persona is 14th C French. She became the Arts and Sciences Minister of the Shire of Montevale, then became the Seneschal, which she is currently. Elsa has co-autocrated events, co-feastocrated, and was feastocrat for 3 events. Elsa has also helped at many events in the kitchen and elsewhere. She loves taking classes as there is always something new to learn. Elsa has used many of the ideas she learned in her high school classroom mundanely. Elsa's first scroll was awarded in 1999. It was awarded at Southern Region War Practice. Elsa has done approx. 72 scrolls with two collaborations, two kingdom gifts, Pennsic Independent sign lettering ,and a few commissions. Elsa has taught many classes at a variety of events, including many at Pennsic. She has taught, including, but not limited to, spinning and fiber prep, wound glass bead making, lucet braiding, Carolingian lettering, Calligraphy 101, a weed walk, and a few more that she can not remember. Elsa ran a Beginner Scribal Tract last year at Pennsic. She also ran a number of garb workshops. Mundanely, Elsa taught art for 35 years at middle school (16 yrs.) and the rest of my career was at the high school level. She taught for a local program for children called Arts Express every summer for many years, many different subjects. This year's class was mask making. Elsa also an art merit badge counselor for Boy Scouts. She has also taught adults, calligraphy, card making, spinning, and limp bound journal making, and a few other things. Elsa has also given lectures on the history of spinning, and daffodil growing and the history. This last was done mainly as a Master Gardener.
Elsa is apprenticed to Mistress Kay Leigh Mac Whyte (Kayleigh McWhyte, aka Cellach Mac Faoitigh), the current East Kingdom Clerk Signet.
